Fall in the Bedroom: When the Colors Turn Warm
November 8, 2026 · La Vita Home Collection

Fall is the season when home matters again. Days shorten, evenings grow quieter and the bed turns from a place to sleep into a refuge for books and tea. A few small changes are enough to bring the bedroom in step with the season.
A Comforter Changeover Plan
Before the cold sets in, take out the winter comforter and leave it in open air and shade for half a day. Clean the summer set, dry it completely and put it away. Clean the whole bed on the same day; the mattress needs airing, too.
A Fall Palette
- Mustard with burnt brown
- Brick with cream
- Olive with matte gold
- Burgundy with warm gray
- Aubergine with honey
You don't have to change the entire room. A shawl and two cushions in fall colors on a neutral comforter give the most change at the least cost.
Fabrics Grow Heavier
Fall is when velvet and chenille return. A warm shawl at the foot of the bed is useful on cool evenings and rescues the bed from monotony. In early fall the weather is still changeable, so instead of a very thick comforter, a light layer plus a shawl is a better choice.
Light and Scent
As evenings draw in, artificial light becomes important. Replace the ceiling light with warm bedside light. A gentle scent of cinnamon or orange peel, or a carefully tended scented candle, completes the seasonal mood.
A Reading Corner
An extra cushion to lean on, a nightstand with room for a cup and a small reading lamp. Fall evenings are made for going to bed a little early and putting your phone aside.
Windows and Curtains
Thicker curtains keep out the cold from the window. If you have thin summer curtains, add another layer. Check the window seals, too, before the weather turns cold.
